Regional Strategies and activities

The synergy between academic institutions, research centres, territory and production activities, regional administration, local agencies and citizens leads Piemonte to technological excellence.A growing investment in research and development has reached 300 M€ of Regional funds in 2007, toward the achievement of Lisbon and Gothenburg targets.This effort is remarked by 100 research and development laboratories, a network of Science Parks linked with the industrial districts and three universities. This system is also called “Piedmont Hydrogen System” (Sistema Piemonte Idrogeno – SPH2). The objectives of the “Piedmont Hydrogen System” or SPH2 are summarised as follows: a) support and direct research in hydrogen technologies; b) promote the professional growth of technical and management personnel in universities, laboratories, and businesses; c) promote hydrogen as a clean carrier instead of the continued use of fossil fuels; d) support the development of regional infrastructures that use hydrogen; e) promote the transfer of technology from laboratories to businesses and industries; f) sustain the pre-competitive phases of technologies that produce hydrogen from renewable sources. 3rd world congress of young scientists on hydrogen energy systems

The 3rd World Congress of Young Scientists on Hydrogen Energy Systems is part of the fifth edition of Eco-efficiency Biennial to be held 7-9 October, 2009 Turin, Italy. It aims to put a beam of light on hydrogen young scientific actors, presenting the results and perspectives of researches, technological applications and product development projects and involving large public. Hydrogen scooters ‘Hysyrider’ released by the collaboration with IAAD-ENVI PARK presented on Torino Motor Fest.

The Istituto d’Arte Applicata e Design – Torino (IAAD) renews even this year its presence at the most important motoring event of Piedomont: the Torino Motor Fest. After the first interesting experience of the first edition, to which IAAD attended with the exposition of a scooter design project realized in collaboration with Yamaha Europe and named “Yamaha next move”, this year the presence is finalized to making aware the audience on low environmental impact mobility theme. On Sunday 13th of April, from 11 a.m. the visitors of Torino Motor Fest will be able to put on trial the “Hysyriders”: hydrogen scooters created and developed by Hysylab of Environment Park and expressly developed in a “race” version by the students of “Transportation design” department of IAAD. Hysyrider is the first Italian scooter full-hydrogen fuelled: it can reach a top speed of 40 km/h, and has got an autonomy of about 70 minutes and does not discharge polluting materials into the air, but just distilled water. It has been planned as an ideal urban vehicle to go through the Limited Traffic Zones and where are applied the transit prohibitions for not-ecological vehicles.
