In December 2007 we have created the NATIONAL CENTRE FOR HYDROGEN AND FUEL CELL TECHNOLOGY EXPERIMENTATION (CNETHPC), it is a new Scientific Research & Technology Development Spanish Facility, devoted to hydrogen and fuel cell technologies. The Centre has been created as a Consortium of the Spanish Ministry of science and innovation and the Castilla-La Mancha Regional Government, as part of the implementation of the Spanish Roadmap of Scientific and Technological Facilities. It has established its headquarters in Puertollano (Ciudad Real). The CNETHPC is devoted to scientific and technology research in all the fields related to hydrogen and fuel cell technologies, being on duty of the national research and technology community and open to international access and collaboration. We also have public budget to promote research activities in enterprises working on hydrogen and fuel cells. With these activities we aim: 1.- To lead, in the medium-term, the national strategy on hydrogen and fuel cell technologies, combining the activities of research, development and technology innovation stakeholders, in order to benefit the industrial sectors involved about the outcomes of R&D and innovation entities. 2.- To promote “lighthouse projects” to attract the attention of other companies and be the referent at a national level. 3.- [...]
Castilla-La Mancha is determined to boost the development of renewable and clean energy for the benefit of a sustainable planet. Not surprisingly, they lead the production of photovoltaic and wind energy. Furthermore, there is an intention to lead solar energy in a period of about three or four years with the installation of 14 plants of 50 megawatts and an investment of more than 200 million euros each. All with the goal that by 2012, all the energy that is produced is clean (currently about 70% comes from renewable sources). A good example of this is the National Hydrogen Centre of Puertollano. The centre, which will be built next year and be operational in 2012, will serve to advance research related to one of the most abundant chemical elements and with great capacity to store energy. It will also be a test station in which companies can test the new systems that use hydrogen as energy carrier, thereby contributing to the implementation of renewable energy. Moreover, and as an example of its capabilities, the centre will operate independently, disconnected from the electric and gas network, using only hydrogen as a store of photovoltaic or wind power.
