The LIFE+ ZERO-HYTECHPARK (LIFE08/ENV/E/000136) launches its website The ZERO-HYTECHPARK project has already an own website where find all the information about its objetives, actions, and latest news. At http://www.zerohytechpark.eu the users will know in detail how the project pretend to reach a zero emissions building using renewable energy and hydrogen technologies. The aim of the ZERO-HYTECHPARK project, part of the European LIFE+ programme on the environment, is to achieve more sustainable technology parks, a task for which it has a budget of 1.3 million euros, 50% of which is financed by the European Union for four years (from 1 January 2010 to 31 December 2013). The Foundation for the Development of New Hydrogen Technologies in Aragon coordinates this initiative with the participation of technology parks in Huesca, Andalusia and Vizcaya, which are project partners. ZERO-HYTECHPARK aims to put measures in place to achieve total sustainability in these areas via optimum energy management by means of systems based on hydrogen technologies and renewable energies. The Life+ Programme is the only European Union financial instrument exclusively dedicated to the environment for the 2007-2013 period, whose general objective is to contribute to the application, updating and development of European policy and legislation concerning the [...]

The second edition of the summer course “Hydrogen and Fuel Cells” was held from 12 to 14th july at Walqa Technological Park, Huesca (SPAIN). The summer course is organized by Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP) and it is directed by engineer D. Luis Carlos Correas, Managing Director of the Foundation for the Development of New Hydrogen Technologies in Aragon. This second edition is focussing on electric vehicle and energy storage. The course includes a technical visit to Walqa Hydrogen Filling station where students will know at Aragon Hydrogen Foundation a real infrastructure of hydrogen and renewable energy, recently awarded by the International Energy Agency Hydrogen Implementation Agreement as the better demonstration project on hydrogen technologies. Since its foundation in 1932, the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP) has gained extensive experience and prestige in the organization of university-level courses and seminars. Active participation by well-known Spanish and foreign specialists and lecturers has led it to be considered one of Europe’s leading summer universities.
Castilla-La Mancha is determined to boost the development of renewable and clean energy for the benefit of a sustainable planet. Not surprisingly, they lead the production of photovoltaic and wind energy. Furthermore, there is an intention to lead solar energy in a period of about three or four years with the installation of 14 plants of 50 megawatts and an investment of more than 200 million euros each. All with the goal that by 2012, all the energy that is produced is clean (currently about 70% comes from renewable sources). A good example of this is the National Hydrogen Centre of Puertollano. The centre, which will be built next year and be operational in 2012, will serve to advance research related to one of the most abundant chemical elements and with great capacity to store energy. It will also be a test station in which companies can test the new systems that use hydrogen as energy carrier, thereby contributing to the implementation of renewable energy. Moreover, and as an example of its capabilities, the centre will operate independently, disconnected from the electric and gas network, using only hydrogen as a store of photovoltaic or wind power.
Galicia is an Autonomous Community in northwest Spain. Its component provinces are A Coruña, Lugo, Ourense and Pontevedra. It borders Portugal to the south, the Spanish regions of Castile and León and Asturias to the east, and the Atlantic Ocean to the north and west. Geography Geographically, a remarkable feature of Galicia is the presence of many fjord-like indentations on the coast, estuaries that were drowned with rising sea levels after the ice age. These are called rías and are divided into the Rías Altas, and the Rías Baixas. The rias are important for fishing, and make the coast an important fishing area. The spectacular landscapes and wildness of the coast attract great numbers of tourists. Finisterre on the Atlantic coast of GaliciaThe coast of this green corner of the Iberian Peninsula is also known as the “A Costa do Marisco” (i.e., “The Seafood Coast” in Galician). Galicia has preserved few of its dense Atlantic forests where wildlife is commonly found. It is relatively unpolluted, and its landscape composed of green hills, cliffs and rias is very different from what is commonly understood as Spanish landscape. Inland, the region is less-populated and suffers from migration to the coast and the [...]

Madrid (pronounced [məˈdɹɪd] in English, [maˈð̞ɾið̞] in Spanish and colloquially in Spain [maˈð̞ɾi]) is the capital and largest city of Spain.[3] It is the third-most populous municipality in the European Union after London and Berlin, and the fourth-most populous urban area in the European Union after Paris, London, and the Ruhr Area.[4] The city is located on the river Manzanares both in the centre of the country and Community of Madrid (which comprises the city of Madrid, its subsequent conurbation and extended suburbs and villages); this community is bordered by the autonomous communities of Castile and León and Castile-La Mancha. As the capital city of Spain, seat of government, and residence of the Spanish monarch, Madrid is also the political center of Spain.[5] The current mayor is Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón from the center-right People’s Party. He has been in office since 2003, when he left the Presidency of the Autonomous Community of Madrid and stood as the candidate to replace outgoing mayor José María Álvarez del Manzano, also from the PP. In the last local elections of 2007, Ruiz-Gallardón increased the PP majority in the City Council to 34 seats out of 57, taking 55.5% of the popular vote and winning [...]

Castile-La Mancha (Spanish “Castilla-La Mancha”) is an autonomous community of Spain. Castile-La Mancha is bordered by Castile and León, Madrid, Aragon, Valencia, Murcia, Andalusia, and Extremadura. It is one of the most sparsely populated of Spain’s autonomous communities. Its capital city is Toledo, and its most populated city is Albacete. Castile-La Mancha was formerly grouped with the province of Madrid into New Castile (“Castilla la Nueva”), but with the advent of the modern Spanish system of semi-autonomous regions (“las autonomías”), it was separated due to great demographic disparity between the capital and the remaining New-Castilian provinces. It is in this region where the famous Spanish novel “Don Quixote” by Miguel de Cervantes was written. Although La Mancha is a windswept, battered plateau (“manxa” means parched earth in Arabic; hence La Mancha is not definitively related to the Spanish word “mancha”, or stain, which is derived from Latin “macula”) it remains a symbol of the Spanish culture with its sunflowers, oliveyards, windmills, Manchego cheese and “Don Quijote”.
