HyER signs Associated Partners of Covenant of Mayors Pledge

HyER has today joined the Associated Partners of the Covenant of Mayors Pledge.

The Covenant of Mayors is a green pledge made by the Mayors of 350 cities across Europe to make a 20% cut in CO2 emissions by 2020. It was signed on 10 February 2012 in the European Parliament.  Each city will now draw up a sustainable energy plan over the next 12 months.

An associated partner provides linkages with private companies and civil societies as well as support the Covenant signatories, notably in the form of technologies, methods financial incentives, promotional tools, cultural and participative initiatives. It involves both local and regional authorities and is a voluntary commitment to promote a low carbon environment whilst encouraging viable alternatives to polluting practices.

So far cities from 23 EU members have signed up to this European Commission initiative including Paris, Brussels, Rome, Stuttgart, Barcelona and Nottingham. Non EU signatories have also joined including Zurich in Switzerland, Tuzla-Istanbul in Turkey, Banja Luka in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Lviv in the Ukraine
